Transitioning away out from a life of high school and college athletics can be difficult. After college graduation, you will be free from squats, suicide runs and so many other exercises that you might have dreaded doing day-in and day-out.
Good news–you don’t have to get up at 6 am any more for practice or early morning runs; you can enjoy your time. But, where do you go from here?
Intense daily activity has played an important factor in your life for the past several years, and it is important that you do not let that go. Regular activity offers an immense amount of physical and mental health benefits including: a decreased risk for cardiovascular disease, diabetes, cancer, anxiety, self-esteem and quality of life. Becoming sedentary after graduation can quickly reverse any health benefits that you gained from playing sports in college.
Maintaining physical activity can be a challenge, and we want to share the steps that you need to help stay active.
- Stick to a workout routine. It doesn’t have to be at 6 am, but find time, either at the beginning of the day or end of the day, to go for a run or lift weights.
- Join a Gym. A gym membership is a great way to mingle with other health conscience individuals while keeping your body and health in check.
- Get involved with recreational sports. Look online and see if your community has adult recreational sporting clubs. Many communities offer adult soccer, basketball, baseball, and flag football leagues. Get involved, and enjoy the sport that you have known to love so much.
- Work with Alumni. Get a group of alumni who are in the same position. Create a workout group and invite other people to discuss exercise, eating habits, and overall health.
